Customs

In Macedonia, customs are similar to those in the United States and other parts of Europe. Macedonians usually greet each other by shaking hands and saying Zdravo (hello). Close friends and family members sometimes kiss each other's cheeks three times. Macedonians speak in a very animated way, and use a lot of nonverbal communication while speaking. It is impolite to nod during a conversation. Macedonians also take offense if they are not looked in the eyes before drinking a toast.
